Te Anau

2/11/2007

This morning we departed from our campsite and drove to a place from which we had a short hike to check out a massive 250 meter waterfall. There were 3 falls to it. The bottom of the waterfall was concealed and could only be seen by jumping across rocks for 45 minutes. I would have loved to see it, but we didn't have enough time. Too bad. I guess you'll have to settle for this picture.

After checking out the waterfall, we drove back toward Te Anau. Along the way, we stopped at one of the entrances to the Routeburn Track (a backpacking track done by the classic Pacific Challenge trip). We had lunch there and then went on a 2 hour round trip hike up to Key Summit, which had some magnificent views. Here are those views.

After the hike we drove back to Te Anau, where we would camp for the night. We camped at a "holiday park," which has hotel rooms as well as areas to camp (for a price, of course). I saw a neat little hedgehog there.
